Mark alias Mahesh Hira Khemlani, a Hong Kong-based import-export businessman alleged to be the main drug supplier, was detained around 10 am at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on his return from Thailand after a Look Out Circular was issued for him. He was handed over to Vanrai police and remanded to police custody until May 6. With his arrest, the total number of accused in the case rose to 12. Investigators allege he facilitated drug transactions and provided the payment scanner used by his live-in partner, Jiya Jacob, to co-accused who distributed party drugs and routed payments to Jacob’s Axis Bank account. Patel transferred ₹64,000, Gerelani ₹22,500, Agarwal ₹1,66,400, and Sahitya ₹1,84,600 through the scanner. Authorities are examining possible international links; Khemlani and Jacob have known each other for 12 years and live together in Mira Road East. Investigators also probing involvement of international drug traffickers; joint interrogation of accused and a search of Khemlani's residence are expected soon.
