The Tibetan Parliament's total strength is fixed at 45 members. Its composition includes 10 members elected from Tibet's three provinces, 2 members from each of Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya, Gelug and Bon, 2 members elected by Tibetan communities in North and South America, 2 by Tibetan communities in Europe and Africa, and 1 by Tibetan community in Asia (excluding India, Nepal & Bhutan) and Australasia.

Following the first round of polls, the Election Commission declared incumbent Penpa Tsering elected as Sikyong of the 17th Kashag after securing 61.025% of total votes.
