Vijay took oath as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister after four days of negotiations. He will need to prove his majority on the floor of the House, with the trust vote date yet to be announced.

Governor RV Arlekar was not ready to invite Vijay to form government and demanded a list of parties and MLAs ready to support him, drawing backlash from various quarters as talks continued.

CPI and CPM, allied with the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, decided to extend outside support to TVK. VCK and IUML followed suit. The move was framed as a step to avert Governor's Rule, prevent BJP entry, and uphold secularism while keeping the DMK alliance intact.

Following Vijay's mandate, initial alliance negotiations unfolded with Congress reportedly as the only willing ally for TVK, while CPI, CPM and PMK kept the party on tenterhooks. VCK postponed its decision, IUML declined to extend support, and AMMK accused TVK of forging a signature of its lone MLA. There were rumors of a possible DMK–AIADMK joint approach to block Vijay, and concerns about Governor's reluctance to invite him amid these dynamics.
