Bargi Dam cruise tragedy
On Thursday evening, the Massey family boarded a Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department cruise boat at Bargi Dam on the Narmada River. The vessel, carrying about 40–43 passengers, encountered a sudden storm with winds around 60–70 km/h, causing it to lose balance and capsize. Marina Massey, 39, was on a video call with relatives moments before the panic, crying 'Save me'; the call then disconnected. Ten people died and around 28 were rescued; among the deceased were Marina, her four-year-old son Trishan, and her mother Madhur Massey (62). Survivors include Marina's husband Pradeep, their 14-year-old daughter Siya, and Julius Massey (65). Pradeep distributed life jackets as panic spread; some passengers wore jackets, others jumped into the water and were saved by locals. Relatives alleged negligence and noted that a yellow alert had been issued but was not communicated to passengers.
