Pune plans SOPs for RMC plants, core zones, and restricted vehicle movements

Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi chaired a meeting with Pune Municipal Corporation commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Vijay Suryawanshi, and officials from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and PMRDA to discuss issues related to RMC plants. Officials acknowledged that plants were contributing to environmental pollution and dust in nearby areas. The participants unanimously decided to draft standard operating procedures for RMC plants within the next three weeks and to resolve concerns in the public interest. The administration assured legally operating RMC plants that they could continue operations, while taking strict action against violators. They also discussed creating core operational zones for RMC plants and imposing traffic regulations on concrete vehicles. It was proposed that RMC vehicles would be allowed to operate on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with restrictions on other days from 11am to 5pm, and that vehicles must install cameras and display prominent number plates for identification.

Following the meeting, RMC plant operators started meetings with administrative officials and political leaders to discuss the proposed regulations for RMC plants.

The Pune Municipal Corporation launched a drive against illegal RMC plants and demolished several unauthorised units as part of enforcement actions tied to concerns over pollution and regulatory compliance.
