PMC connects 19-km pipeline under 24x7 water scheme; relief for south Pune areas

The Pune Municipal Corporation began the project for its 24x7 water supply scheme in 2018–19 as part of efforts to improve water distribution across the city.

An article published on May 3, 2026 reported that the PMC connected a 19-km pipeline to three tanks near NIBM Road and that an additional 4-km line would start supplying water to five more tanks the following week, expanding the network to eight tanks over a 33-km distribution area. Water department head Nandkishor Jagtap said the initiative would benefit south Pune by addressing water shortages and reducing tanker truck movements. Former Shiv Sena corporator Nana Bhangire described this as a long-pending demand for Undri and Mohammadwadi residents, while Mohammadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation member Sunil Iyer urged continued urgent work for residents on Undri hilltop. The piece also noted eight-year challenges including land acquisition, rocky terrain, shifting service lines and electric poles, and traffic diversions.

The main 19-km pipeline became operational on May 1, 2026, connecting to three newly constructed water tanks near NIBM Road as part of the 24x7 water supply scheme. An additional 4-km line will soon supply water to five more tanks, bringing the total to eight tanks and covering a distribution area of 33 km. Water will be supplied through gravity, ensuring consistent distribution, and the project is expected to benefit around 4 lakh residents.
