Om Birla visits Kota hospital as six women deteriorate after C-sections; one dies and probe panels formed

The five women are conscious and speaking; doctors say the chances of multiple organ failure cannot be ruled out at this point.

Sudden low blood pressure, fall of platelets and blockage of urine are common complications after caesarean delivery; the condition of the five women is reported to be stable but not out of danger for 72-96 hours.

Another medical team, headed by Dr Suresh Dulara, will probe the reason behind the deterioration in health condition of six of the 12 women.

The five women with critical complications have been shifted to the nephrology ward; a five-member medical team led by Dr Vikas Khandeliya has been formed to provide them dedicated medical treatment.

The district administration has constituted various committees to probe the incident.

Another team of specialised doctors will reach Kota shortly and coordinate with doctors there to extend better treatment to the women.

A high-level medical team has been constituted to probe the matter. The team is scheduled to reach Kota on Wednesday night.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla visited the Government Medical College and Hospital in Kota and took stock of the medical care being extended to the patients.

Payal's newborn male child is healthy and has been sent home with relatives.

One of the six women, Payal (Bhainsrorgarh, Chittor district), died during treatment on Tuesday. A death-audit committee has been formed to ascertain and analyse the cause of death.

Six women developed complications 8-10 hours after the caesarean deliveries; they were shifted to the nephrology ward and their newborns were moved to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

At least 12-13 pregnant women underwent caesarean deliveries at Kota Government Medical College and Hospital on Monday evening.
