MEA condemns attack on Indian-flagged ship off Oman coast; calls for protection of commercial shipping

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia and ongoing disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy shipping route.

Movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz is taking place with close coordination among India’s DG Shipping and the ministries of External Affairs, Defence, and Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Officials said 13 India-flagged ships are currently in the Persian Gulf awaiting passage through the conflict-hit route.

The Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack on the Indian-flagged ship as 'unacceptable' and stated that all Indian crew on board were safe, thanking Omani authorities for rescuing them. India called for protection of commercial shipping and reiterated that attacks on merchant vessels and disruptions to maritime trade routes should be avoided.

The Vietnam-flagged LPG carrier NV Sunshine completed its transit through the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday morning and is proceeding towards New Mangalore port.

The Marshall Islands-flagged LPG carrier Symi, carrying around 20,000 tonnes of liquid propane and butane, completed transit through the Strait of Hormuz and is headed to Deen Dayal Port in Kandla with a crew of eight Ukrainians and 13 Filipinos.
