Lavrov to visit India for BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in May 2026

Special attention will be given to the preparation of meetings of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation.

Preparations for the 18th BRICS summit are to be held in New Delhi in September 2026, with participation of BRICS partner states' foreign ministers in some sessions.

Lavrov will participate in a full-fledged BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi on May 14-15, 2026, and will hold a bilateral meeting with India's Foreign Minister as part of talks on bilateral relations and BRICS preparations.

India holds the BRICS chair in 2026, guided by the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability'.

Last month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, discussing the West Asia conflict and expanding bilateral ties.

South Africa attended the third BRICS Summit.

BRIC was expanded into BRICS with the inclusion of South Africa at the BRIC Foreign Ministers' meeting in New York.

The inaugural BRIC Summit was convened in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

BRIC was formalised at the first BRIC Foreign Ministers' meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
