HHRC takes cognizance of Jhajjar hospital irregularities

May 5, 2026

The Haryana Human Rights Commission received complaints alleging patients were referred from Jhajjar and Bahadurgarh government hospitals to private facilities despite the availability of medical specialties in these government facilities. The complaints highlighted that most ambulances are non-functional and lack valid fitness certificates. They also described the Beri Sub-divisional Hospital as lacking essential medical equipment, medicines, and basic facilities, and alleged prolonged absence of the Senior Medical Officer and apathy towards public grievances. Acting on these allegations, the HHRC indicated that such issues could violate government norms and the right to health, and directed the additional chief secretary, health and family welfare; medical education and research and AYUSH; the director general, health services, Haryana, Panchkula; and the civil surgeon, Jhajjar to submit a detailed, factual, and time-bound report addressing all allegations a week prior to the next hearing on August 20, 2026. The commission also sought details on the number of referrals and the medical specialties available in Jhajjar and Bahadurgarh hospitals.
