Haryana to launch e-auction portal for agroforestry tree sales
The Haryana government will launch an e-auction portal via the HFDC to allow farmers to sell agroforestry trees, such as eucalyptus and poplar, directly through an online platform. The move, approved at the HFDC Board meeting, aims to improve price discovery, reduce middlemen, and increase transparency, with farmers able to set reserve prices and receive payments automatically after auctions.
Why It Matters
The portal is expected to increase farmers' income and provide access to a wider pool of buyers by eliminating intermediaries and enhancing price transparency.

Implementation plan and process flow for the e-auction portal
Farmers willing to use the HFDC e-auction portal will submit an application to the concerned general manager. Field offices will assess and mark the standing trees and determine a reserve price based on volume. Farmers may also set their own reserve price. Tree volume details will be uploaded to the e-auction portal. After the auction, the bid amount will be communicated to the farmer; if the farmer agrees to the price, HFDC will charge a 5% service fee and the remaining amount will be transferred to the farmer's bank account electronically. The scheme will be open to institutions with a 10% service fee. The objective is to improve price discovery, reduce intermediaries, increase transparency, and broaden the pool of buyers, potentially increasing farmers’ income by up to 25%. The examples of agroforestry trees include species such as eucalyptus and poplar.
