First two phases of SIR: details shared

The Election Commission also shared details of the first two phases of the SIR exercise conducted in 13 states and Union Territories. Nearly 59 crore electors were covered in the first two phases. More than 6.3 lakh BLOs and 9.2 lakh BLAs appointed by political parties participated in different stages of the electoral roll revision process.

Phase III SIR announced for 16 states and 3 UTs (exclusions: HP, J&K, Ladakh)

The Election Commission of India announced the Phase-III schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 16 states and 3 Union Territories. Phase III is prepared in line with Census house listing work and will cover almost the entire country, except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh, for which schedules will be announced later after Phase-II Census completion and weather considerations in snow-bound regions. About 3.94 lakh Booth Level Officers will conduct house-to-house visits to verify details of 36.73 crore electors, aided by around 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by political parties. The Commission described SIR as a participative exercise involving electors, political parties and election officials, and urged parties to appoint BLAs at polling booths. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar urged voters to participate actively to ensure only eligible names are included.
