Death Count In Chhattisgarh Vedanta Power Plant Blast Climbs To 24

Sources indicated that technical malfunctions had been observed on multiple occasions during production over the last year, with a brief shutdown necessitated due to a technical fault just 10 days prior to the blast.

Forensic Science Laboratory in Sakti confirmed that the accumulation of fuel and the resulting excessive pressure were the primary causes of the blast.

A preliminary technical investigation found that excessive fuel accumulation inside the boiler furnace led to a pressure build-up, triggering the explosion.

Police registered a case under sections related to causing death by negligence and negligent conduct with machinery against eight to ten individuals, including Vedanta Group chairman Anil Agarwal and plant head Devendra Patel.

A worker from Jharkhand died at Raigarh Medical College this morning, six days after he was injured, bringing the death toll to 24.

Two workers died during treatment on Saturday: Subrata Kumar Jana, from West Bengal's Medinipur, and Upendra Sah, from Jharkhand's Garhwa. Jana died at Raigarh Medical College and Sah was undergoing treatment at Kalda Hospital, Raipur; both had suffered around 90 percent burns.

One worker died at a Raipur hospital on the night of April 16, taking the death toll to 12.

Seven workers died in hospitals from burn injuries related to the blast, taking the death toll to 11.

An explosion occurred in a steel tube carrying high-pressure steam from the boiler to the turbine at the Vedanta Ltd power plant in Singhitarai village, Sakti. Four workers were killed on the spot.
