BJP's Pravesh Wahi elected mayor of Municipal Corporation of Delhi

The Aam Aadmi Party, which had 100 councillors, 2 RS members and three MLAs, sat out the mayoral election entirely.

The three standing committee members—Jai Bhagwan Yadav (Begumpur) and Manish Chadha (Paharganj) from BJP, and Jalaj Chaudhary from Shalimar Bagh from AAP—were elected without any voting.

Monika Pant, BJP councillor from Anand Vihar, was elected deputy mayor as the Congress withdrew from contest following the mayoral results.

Pravesh Wahi, BJP councillor from Rohini East, was elected mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi with 156 of 165 votes; Congress candidate Hazi Zaraf received 9 votes. The Aam Aadmi Party did not contest. Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal attended to vote, having switched from BJP to AAP the previous week. The voting started around 2:10 pm and ended around 4:00 pm. Wahi announced priorities including clearing landfill sites by December, initiating regular biomining inspections, and a citywide survey to identify misuse of residential premises. He also said there would be no sealing actions during his watch and set a target for MCD to rank among the top ten sanitation cities nationally.

Last year, the Bharatiya Janata Party won the MCD election after a series of defections from the AAP.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi was reconstituted as a unified body on May 22, 2022, after the merger of the East, North, and South Delhi Municipal Corporations.

In the 2022 MCD elections, the Aam Aadmi Party won, with Shelly Oberoi and Mahesh Khichi elected as mayors in the first two years.
