Ballia Sattu expands internationally and boosts branding under ODOP
Ballia’s Sattu has crossed national borders to the USA, China, Nepal, Dubai and Gulf nations, and is gaining popularity on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart and JioMart. Demand is rising among consumers in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Nidhi Udyog founder Niti Agrawal says laddoos made from Ballia’s Sattu are being prepared for export to America and Gulf countries, with plans to establish a new international identity in coming years. The ODOP initiative has linked Doaba farmers to a market, with processing units established in the industrial area and Farmer Producer Organizations formed; gram cultivation covers about 6,500 hectares and farmers are receiving fair prices. Sattu stalls are set up around the Bhrigu Temple area, there is branding and packaging effort, and Sattu has been gifted to distinguished persons and police personnel during Holi and Diwali. Discussions of a GI tag are noted to strengthen branding and curb counterfeits. Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh has also sent packets of Ballia’s Sattu to all ministers and MLAs to promote the product.
